Taika Waititi Directs Cheeky ‘Jurassic Park’ Super Bowl Ad With Digitially De-Aged Original Cast

The Super Bowl ad season is underway, with the big game this Sunday, and we’re getting all sorts of early looks at various spots and teasers. One of the more impressive ads making the rounds is a “Jurassic Park” spot promoting Xfinity, directed by Taika Waititi (“What We Do In The Shadows”) with a de-aged trio of original actors (Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum) from the mega-popular Steven Spielberg film.

A cheeky angle in the ad is that if they had Xfinity at the park, their computer system wasn’t hijacked, and worked, continuing on with a hilarious take on what the park would look like if the system hadn’t crashed and the soft-opening weekend hadn’t interrupted with carnage. One of the more jarring aspects is the digital de-aging of the “Jurassic Park” actors, but it still has some strong comedic beats here.

Waititi has a connection to fellow Kiwi Neill, being the co-star of “The Hunt For The Wilderpeople” and also had a minor part in “Thor: Ragnarok, which had Goldblum playing the charming MCU cosmic villain, The Grandmaster.

Audiences won’t have to wait too much longer for the next feature effort from Waititi (who has been doing a lot of work on the small screen), as he has completed his sci-fi pic “Klara & The Sun.” Amy Adams, Jenna Ortega, Mia Tharia, and Aran Murphy (son of Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy) are among the film’s cast, an adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro (“Never Let Me Go”) novel and expected to be released by Sony‘s 3000 Pictures later in the year.

A synopsis for the upcoming film via Deadline:

“The film tells the story of Klara (Ortega), an Artificial Friend designed to prevent loneliness. Klara is purchased by a mother (Adams) and a bright teen named Josie (Tharia) who adores her new robot companion, but suffers from a mysterious illness. This is the story of Klara’s quest to save Josie and those who love her from heartbreak, and how, in the process, Klara learns the power of human love.”
