Got a Tip?

Taika Waititi To Co-Write, Produce & Direct Pilot Episode Of New FX Series ‘Reservation Dogs’

We’ve said it before and it’s never been truer, Taika Waititi is a busy, busy man. Not to throw shade at other filmmakers, but normally when it’s announced that a director has signed on to write and helm a Marvel Studios film (which is happening with the upcoming “Thor: Love & Thunder”), the entirety of their career is devoted to the MCU. With Waititi, he’s not only going to begin working on his ‘Thor’ sequel in 2020, but he’s going to squeeze in promotion for “Jojo Rabbit,” a brand-new film that he’ll finish in the months to come “Next Goal Wins,” and apparently a new FX series, “Reservation Dogs.”

According to Discussing Film (confirmed by Waititi, himself), the director is set to co-write, produce, and direct the pilot episode of an upcoming FX series titled “Reservation Dogs.” The report claims that Waititi is working with Sterlin Harjo, who will produce and co-write the series. “Reservation Dogs” is said to follow the story of four teens who live on a Native American reservation in Oklahoma that commit petty crimes.

“Indigenous stories by indigenous filmmakers,” tweeted Waititi. “Getting to create a story told through a native lens with my old friend @sterlinharjo makes this whole journey worthwhile. Mauri ora!”

The report says that Waititi will find a way to fit “Reservation Dogs” in his busy schedule and begin filming the pilot in February. Presumably, the director will have wrapped up production on “Next Goal Wins” by then. That film, which stars Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss, follows the true story of a white coach attempting to turn the American Samoa soccer team into winners.

And yes, after all of this, it’s expected that we’ll lose Waititi to the black hole known as Marvel Studios until he finishes work on ‘Thor 4,’ which already has the release date set of November 5, 2021.
