Got a Tip?

Ten Minutes Of New Daft Punk ‘Tron Legacy’ Music Is More Exciting Than All The Light Cycles In The World

Yes, “Tron Legacy” sure does look pretty. But even more exciting than light cycles zipping around a synthetic world and the inevitable climactic battle between Young Bridges and Old Bridges, the thing we’ve been most pumped about is French electro duo Daft Punk’s pulse-pounding original score.
Last week in the Comic-Con milieu, a few minutes of mostly orchestral music popped up on the movie’s official website. The music was pretty stunning and involved some big “movie music” moments but not much in the way of the slinky beats that Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Cristo are known for. Well, all that’s changed. Ten minutes of new “Tron Legacy” music from the duo has leaked onto the interweb (Vulture via Pretty Much Amazing).

The PMA post seems to suggest that there will be two “Tron Legacy” albums released concurrently: one with the movie’s score and another with the music that the duo has created for the “Tron” world. We’ve heard talk of a double album before, but this is the first we’ve heard of two separate releases. As for the duo themselves, it’s been long established that the robotic Frenchmen have a role in the movie, probably as the video game world’s resident deejays.

The music itself is the kind of throbbing, bubbly electro that we’ve come to expect from Daft Punk. They seem to be eschewing the darker vibe of 2005’s forgettable “Human After All” album in favor of the more poppy “Discovery” stuff. And the results are pretty phenomenal. Fuck the 10 minutes, we want the whole thing! (And just imagine it with that 3D sound!)

We’ve been hearing that, should the movie be the phenomenal success that Disney imagines it will be, there’s talk of outfitting the stateside theme parks with all sorts of “Tron” stuff (rides, dudes in nifty light-up suits, etc.). And hearing these 10 minutes made us think of how awesome it would be to listen to these spacey jams while riding Space Mountain in the park’s futuristic Tommorowland. Hey, it could happen.
