Got a Tip?

‘Terminator: Genisys’ Will Be PG-13 Rated “Love Story” With “A Healthy Amount Of Movie Violence”

Terminator: GenisysWhile the title "Terminator: Genisys" still makes us lol (LOL), details are beginning to emerge about the latest installment in the franchise coming next summer, with Ah-nold returning once again to the series that made him a mega-star. Yet even with his participation, there is a determined effort to establish this effort as a whole new saga… or something.

“I think it’s going to be really cool, what they’ve done with it," star Jai Courtney told Collider. "People want to know if it’s a sequel or a reboot.  Word came to me is that it’s more of a ‘reset.’ That’s the awesome thing about when you play with time travel. Maybe we’re introduced to a world that audiences know, but circumstances can change and that shifts the course of everything.”

"We’re not remaking one of the early ‘Terminator’ movies," the actor told Huffington Post. "And it doesn’t necessarily carry on from the point where we left off."

We’re not sure how the "Terminator" franchise will reset if it involves Schwarzenegger, but we’ll put that aside. Perhaps of more concern for fans is that the film probably won’t revel in R-rated fun.

"I would love to see it be rated R, but I don’t think it will," Courtney told The Arnold Fans. "In this day and age, it’s much more likely to be PG-13. There were no f-bombs. But there’ll be a healthy amount of movie violence."

Oh no! Franchise ruined? Nah. It’s just the way blockbusters roll these days, since studios  need to lure the biggest possible audience to recoup those gargantuan budgets. And let’s face it, the problems with series low point "Terminator Salvation" had little to do with its rating. Let’s just hope ‘Genisys’ ends up with a halfway decent script, which J.K. Simmons claims is the case.

"It’s a gigantic movie and that was such a surprise when they sent [the script] to me and asked me to do it. I thought ‘well, obviously it’s a gigantic movie and on that level, it’s something most actors would want to be a part of, but is it just going to be the formulaic yadda-yadda-yadda then cut to the stuff blowing up?’ But I found the script to be really much more intelligent and fun and funny and well-rounded and heartfelt," Simmons told ComingSoon. "It’s a love story. It’s a really interesting script. They got great actors. I wrapped that in August, so that was another movie that ended up being really satisfying on all levels. I have a much smaller part in that but it was really a fun thing to be a part of."

And there are plans for more with Courtney, who says a rough schedule is in place for two more movies. "I think the plan is do the next two back to back in 2016,” he said.

So there you go: a PG-13 rated love story franchise reset starring Arnold Schwarzenegger will open on July 1, 2015.
