'Terminator: Zero' Trailer: Timothy Olyphant, André Holland & More Lend Their Voices To This Sci-Fi Anime Series

Call me crazy, but is it ok to be really excited for the “Terminator” franchise again? I know it’s like a terrible friend who comes into your life every few years, asking for money, and then treating you like shit. But, seriously, “Terminator Zero” looks like a lot of fun. Maybe this time the friend isn’t going to break my heart.

As seen in the trailer for “Terminator Zero,” the upcoming anime series has all the hallmarks of a ‘Terminator’ story. There’s Skynet doing all of its evil shit, a terminator and a soldier are sent back in time to do battle over the life of a special person who could prevent world destruction. But this time, instead of Arnold Schwarzenegger, we get some badass anime characters. Oh no, this is going to hurt me, isn’t it? 

The voice cast includes Timothy Olyphant, André Holland, Rosario Dawson, Ann Dowd, and Sonoya Mizuno. The series showrunner-writer Mattson Tomlin. He’s probably best known for his script work on Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” and the forthcoming sequel. 

“Terminator Zero” arrives on Netflix on August 29. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

2022: A future war has raged for decades between the few human survivors and an endless army of machines. 1997: The AI known as Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity. Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he is hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future which forever alters the fate of his three children.
