Tyler Perry has found his love interest for his next movie that doesn’t involve Madea, with Thandie Newton reteaming with the “For Colored Girls” writer/actor/director/producer in his latest effort, “Good Deeds.”
Using the somewhat tired premise in which the well-off and economically challenged find their lives intertwined, the romantic drama will center on the cleverly named Glen Deeds (Perry), a successful entrepreneur who is about to get married when a much-less affluent single mom (Newton) catches his eye, and stirs up feelings in him that he didn’t know he had.
With production set to begin later this month, more names will likely crop up in the coming days and weeks and we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more folks who’ve worked with Perry in the past. Newton is an excellent actress who has been lost in a number of bad films over the past few years including “Vanishing On 7th Street,” “2012,” and “Run, Fatboy, Run.” While we don’t exactly rank Perry among our fave filmmakers, hopefully this helps get Newton out of a rut. At any rate, we have high hopes for her forthcoming virus thriller “The Retreat” with Cillian Murphy and Jamie Bell. [Variety]
