'The Beach' Trailer: A24's Week-Long "Infinity-Looping Experience" Comes From Filmmaker Warwick Thornton

A24 has become a studio synonymous with originality and experimentation. And for the most part, with films like “Moonlight,” “The Lighthouse,” “Lady Bird,” and “Hereditary,” among many more, the mission statement has really worked out well. But now, A24 is presenting “The Beach,” which is probably the studio’s most experimental project yet.

As seen in the trailer for “The Beach,” the project is being described as an “infinity-looping experience,” where you follow one man on a beach doing everyday tasks. Then Warwick Thornton’s film loops on itself and shows the whole thing over and over and over again for a full week-long event.

As mentioned, the film is directed by Warwick Thornton, who also is the star of the experience. But as A24 is sure to mention in the press notes, he’s not the only cast member, as he’s joined by three chickens, a dog, and a mud crab. Sadly, the studio didn’t provide any of the previous credits for the mud crab, but as you can see in the below trailer, the role is very, uh, meaty.

“The Beach” debuts on November 22 and runs until November 28 at A24’s Screening Room.

Here’s the synopsis:

Created and directed by one of Australia’s most celebrated filmmakers, Warwick Thornton, THE BEACH is the soulful journey of a man who has chosen to give up life in the fast lane and decamp to an isolated beach in an attempt to transform his life through the healing power of nature. Featuring winning performances from an ensemble of nature’s finest — and Michelin star-worthy catch and cook meals — this infinitely-looping experience is an exquisitely shot and unexpectedly moving feast for the senses.
