Got a Tip?

The 20 Best Film Posters Of 2023

Honorable Mention
OK, here are a lot of other posters we admired. The shoe-tip poster for “Air”; the haunting imagery of “Alice, Darling”; the isolated building shot of “All Of Us Strangers”; the hands of “All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt;” the cleverness of “American Fiction”; the frightening bloody colors of “Birth/Rebirth”; the arresting design for the doc, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President”; the minimalism of “The Bikeriders,” there’s a lot of great alt versions of “The Creator”;  the fearfulness of  “A Haunting In Venice,” even if it’s much scarier than the movie; “Invisible Beauty,” the family huddle of “The Iron Claw”; “Judie Blume Forever”; this striking version of “The Little Mermaid,” The great beauty and composition of “Kokomo City”; the memorable, colorful and playful  imagery of Pedro Almodovar’s short, “Strange Way of Life”; the beauty of “Tiger Stripes;”; the minimalist and thematically clever imagery for “Drive Away Dolls”; the chilling, “there’s no point in praying” slogan of “When Evil Lurks” juxtaposed next to its alarming suicidal image; and the thematically disquieting imagery in The National Geographic doc, “The Mission.”

Also worth shouting out; the inherent comedy in “The Meg 2,” the freakiness, frightening nature, but still humorousness of “M3gan”; the ScreenX and Dolby versions of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”; the imposing, “he came from nothing,” “Napoleon” poster; the melancholic “Occupied City” pointing to a more innocent time; the poster for Errol Morris’ “The Pigeon Tunnel”; the kiss of “Priscilla”; many of the “Saltburn” posters; “Sanctuary”; many of the “Saw X” alts; the Sylvester Stallone doc, “Sly,” the beautifully artful posters for “Sometimes I Think Abou Dying”; so many amazing posters for “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse”; the minimalism of “The Starling Girl”; the excellent illustrated poster for “Story Ave” with its MTA subway allusions;  the throwback, old-school horror poster for “Suitable Flesh” the Western minimalism of “Surrounded” with Letitia Wright; “Tetris”; many great versions of posters from “They Cloned Tyrone”; and the artful and impressive images of “A Thousand And One.” Look as usual, we could go on forever, but these are a lot of great options, right?

Dishonorable Mention
Man, if you really look through all of the posters released in 2023, you could easily make a feature based on all the worst, terrible posters. But who has the time for that? Still, we can make room for one dishonorable mention, the bland af poster for Apple TV+’s “Ghosted,” which is fitting just as generic and dumb as the movie itself (though this terrible “Wonka” poster is a close second).
