We’ve been beyond thrilled with the prospect of Korean filmmaker Park Chan-Wook making an English-language feature with his Western “The Brigands of Rattlecreek,” which already has an impressive cast such as Austin Butler (“Miami Vice ’85”), Matthew McConaughey (“True Detective”), Pedro Pascal (“Eddington”), and Tang Wei (“Blackhat”), and boasts a script that had work from S. Craig Zahler of “Bone Tomahawk” fame. Another talented actor has joined the pic and should be turning heads.
A casting update from Deadline reveals that Adèle Exarchopoulos has taken a key role in the Western, set to play the wife of Butler’s character. Her previous credits include the acclaimed French romance drama “Blue Is the Warmest Color,” in which she became Cannes’ youngest Palme d’Or winner, sharing the prized award with filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche and her co-star Léa Seydoux.
The outlet’s report also featured the following logline:
“A sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a group of bandits who use the cover of a torrential thunderstorm to rob and terrorize the occupants of a small town.”
Film fans would be very aware of the director’s STELLAR and influential previous work, such as “Oldboy,” “Decision to Leave,” “The Handmaiden,” “Stoker,” “Lady Vengeance,” “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance,” “Thirst,” and, most recently, “No Other Choice.”
Bradley Fischer is set as producer on “The Brigands of Rattlecreek” alongside Park at Moho Film. The executive producers include Back Jisun Back for Moho, Mike Medavoy, Georgia Kacandes, and Patrick Wachsberger. Filming isn’t expected to commence until early 2027, as Warner Bros. is set to release the film domestically, and the project landed at their shingle, Clockwork.
