Fairy tales come in all shapes and sizes. Growing up, you’re probably familiar with the Disney brand of fairy-tale. However, as an adult, these stories tend to lose their appeal, as we become more aware of how the world actually works. But that doesn’t mean adult fairy tales don’t exist. They’re just… different. As seen in the trailer for “The Changeling,” the series is being billed as a fairy tale for grown-ups. A story that features magic and adventure, but also the drama and horror of being an adult. The plot follows a man as he goes on an adventure to find his missing wife who may or may not be cursed by some sort of witch. But this journey isn’t through some mystical land. Instead, his magical quest takes him through the streets of New York City, which starts to show signs of being slightly otherworldly.
The series stars LaKeith Stanfield, Clark Backo, Adina Porter, Samuel T. Herring, Alexis Louder, Jared Abrahamson, and Malcolm Barrett. “The Changeling” is written and showrun by Kelly Marcel. The pilot episode was directed by Melina Matsoukas, who is probably best known for her directorial debut “Queen & Slim.”
“The Changeling” debuts on Apple TV+ on September 8. You can watch the trailer below.
