After two Palme d’Or wins, it feels like Ruben Östlund can make a movie about whatever the hell he wants with whatever actors he chooses. And for his new film, “The Entertainment System is Down,” it appears he’s doing just that. Plus, he bought a plane.
Deadline is reporting that Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl are the latest actors to join Ruben Östlund’s ensemble cast for the satirical film, “The Entertainment System is Down.” The film tells the story of a long airplane flight where the onboard entertainment system goes down. This leaves a plane-full of people left with nothing but their thoughts while they sit in a flying metal tube. And boy, oh boy, people don’t like to be left with their own thoughts. Interestingly, as far as the production goes, the report claims that Östlund also has purchased his own retired 747 plane to use during the filming of the project.

Dunst is someone who has been in the spotlight recently, thanks to her work on the Alex Garland hit, “Civil War,” where she plays a war photographer. Brühl, on the other hand, has been seen in the recent film, “Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia.” He’s also set to star in the upcoming series “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.” The duo join a cast that already includes Keanu Reeves, in a rare role where he’s most likely not going to murder anyone.
Östlund is probably best known for films such as “Force Majeure,” “The Square,” and “Triangle of Sadness.” The latter earned the filmmaker two Oscar nominations.
A release date for “The Entertainment System is Down” has yet to be announced.
