What a year it’s been for Miles Teller. He’s starred in Paramount+‘s “The Offer” and Joseph Kosinski‘s Netflix film “Spiderhead.” But of course, the real story is Kosinski’s other film this year, “Top: Gun Maverick,” which just passed $1.4 billion at the global box office. “Maverick” is now the highest-grossing film Paramount has ever made, the highest-grossing one in Tom Cruise‘s filmography, and currently sits #12 all-time for the highest-grossing movies of all time. Also, spoiler alert: critics loved it, too.
But enough about “Top Gun: Maverick.” What does Teller have up next? Deadline reports that the actor’s next big event movie will be “The Gorge,” a high-action, genre-bending love story from “The Black Phone” director Scott Derrickson. “The Tomorrow War” screenwriter Zach Dean pens the script, with Skydance and Derrickson‘s hub Crooked Highway on board to produce. Miller will also co-executive produce the film.
While not on the same level as “Maverick,” “The Black Phone” was a success for Derrickson this summer. The movie grossed $150 at the global box office off a $25 million budget. Derrickson reportedly had several things already developing with Skydance, including “The Gorge.” However, he and the studio went ahead with the upcoming movie after “The Black Phone” did so well in theaters.
Skydance adds “The Gorge” to an already stacked release slate for the next couple of years. Upcoming live-action films for the studio include the seventh and eighth installments of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, and “The Greatest Beer Run Ever” and “Ghosted” for Apple TV+. They also have “The Old Guard 2,” “Heart Of Stone,” and a reimagining of the “Spy Kids” franchise up for Netflix.
No word on when “The Gorge” will hit theaters but expect it to receive a 2024 release.
