Evil never really dies in Shadyside. Netflix is all-in on R.L. Stine‘s (“Goosebumps”) “Fear Street” after releasing a trilogy of horror movies in 2021 (“1994,” “1978,” and “1666“), and is now back with “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” a feature film adaptation of the Stine novel “The Prom Queen.” The streamer has dropped a new trailer that we can now share with you.
Matt Palmer (“Calibre”) directs the 1988-set slasher from a script he penned alongside Donald McLeary, with a cast that features India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Chris Klein, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Ariana Greenblatt, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston.
A logline for “Fear Street: Prom Queen” courtesy of Netflix:
Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next installment of the blood-soaked “Fear Street” franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway, and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.
“We’re back in Shadyside and the year is 1988,” Palmer told Tudum in an official statement. “With Senior Prom just two days away, the race for prom queen is already heating up, but when somebody starts slaughtering the prom queen candidates, all hell is set to break loose. Think classic 80s slasher and all the fun that entails, but with compelling characters, needle drops, dancing, and a whole lot more!”
The Newton Brothers also provide the film’s score, who are known for things like “X-Men ’97,” “Daredevil: Born Again,” and the recent “Goosebumps” series revival.
