Three years ago, you only had a Hulu subscription if you were obsessed with TV and needed to watch reruns of popular series. It’s not entirely fair to say that any one film or TV series changed the status of the streaming service from second-thought to must-have, but if there was, you might want to point to “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Back when “The Handmaid’s Tale” was announced, people were confused as to why it was going to premiere on Hulu and not a big streaming service like Amazon or Netflix. But now, thanks to its popularity, and multiple Emmy wins, ‘Handmaid’s’ has not only become the crown jewel in Hulu’s original content library, but also has brought legitimacy to the service.
Now, as we enter Season 3 of the dystopian sci-fi/drama, not only are there more subscribers than ever ready to devour the latest episodes, but Hulu, itself, has grown into a Disney-controlled beast of a streaming service, with plenty of great content for folks to watch. This is especially helpful, as many viewers will need a bit of a palate cleanser when they’re done fearing for the future and feeling like there’s no hope, thanks “The Handmaid’s Tale” and star Elisabeth Moss’ incredible performance.

Outside of Moss, the series’ cast includes Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck”), Ann Dowd (“Marley & Me”), and Alexis Bledel (“Gilmore Girls,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”).
“The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 3 begins on Hulu on June 5.
Here’s the synopsis:
Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values’. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
