When it was released in 2021, there was a lot of hype surrounding Jeymes Samuel’s “The Harder They Fall.” A lot of the buzz came from the ridiculously stacked cast he brought together for the Western. However, when the film hit, though it had great reviews, “The Harder They Fall” didn’t seem to strike a chord quite like people were expecting. Well, even still, it appears a sequel could be happening.
Responding to someone on X (fka Twitter), “The Harder They Fall” filmmaker Jeymes Samuel posted a quick reply saying that work is being done on a possible sequel to his Western. The person on social media just said that they were wishing a second film was in the works, and Samuel simply said, “…There is.”
No, that’s not a ton of information. And no, a quick tweet isn’t a full confirmation from Netflix that the streamer is working hard on making a sequel to “The Harder They Fall.” However, what it does show is that there is definitely interest in another film in this burgeoning franchise. And perhaps, if Samuel is able to come up with a good pitch for another film, then Netflix would be interested in making another.
For those who haven’t seen “The Harder They Fall,” the Western features an all-star cast that includes Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Regina King, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield, RJ Cyler, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, and Deon Cole. The film tells the story of an outlaw seeking revenge on someone after they are released from prison. “The Harder They Fall” is notably a rare Western with a predominantly Black cast.
Again, it’s unclear what a sequel might look like and who might be involved. But if you’re a fan of the original film, there’s a bit of hope.
