'The Innocents' Trailer: Eskil Vogt's Supernatural Thriller Follows Children With Psychic Powers

Plenty of films over the years have taught us that kids are pretty damn creepy. But when you add in a dash of superpowers, suddenly you have children that are perhaps the stuff of nightmares, such as in “The Innocents.”

As seen in the new trailer for “The Innocents,” the film follows the story of a group of young children who find out that they might have psychic powers. And as you might expect in a film such as this, the superpowers don’t lead to fun adventures, but instead, these abilities lead the children down a potentially dark, dangerous path.

While the concept alone is incredibly interesting, perhaps film fans will be more excited to know who is behind the camera bringing “The Innocents” to life. “The Innocents” is written and directed by Eskil Vogt, who people might know as the writing partner of Joachim Trier. The duo are currently nominated for an Oscar for their work on “The Worst Person in the World” and previously dabbled in a bit of genre filmmaking with “Thelma” several years ago.

We saw “The Innocents” when it debuted at Cannes last year. And in our review, we called the feature “a violent nightmare of a film” and commended Vogt’s visual storytelling. “The Innocents” will arrive in select theaters and on VOD on May 13. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

The Innocents follows four children who become friends during the summer holidays. Out of sight of the adults, they discover they have hidden powers. While exploring their newfound abilities in the nearby forests and playgrounds, their innocent play takes a dark turn and strange things begin to happen.
