“Yellowstone” may be ending with Season 5B this November, but its saga is just beginning. And according to TVLine, creator Taylor Sheridan may have his leading cast for his latest spinoff, now tentatively titled “The Madison.” So who’s in talks to star in this iteration? Surprisingly, not Matthew McConaughey, who’s been circling a spinoff for over a year now. Instead, it’s Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell and “Suits” actor Patrick J. Adams in the mix as the show’s leads.
Pfeiffer isn’t a surprise, as news of her potential involvement popped up in February. But Russell in particular is an eye-brow raiser. He’s not stranger to Westerns, but out of Apple TV+‘s “Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters,” his recent TV work is scarce. Adams, however, is a TV vet who fits the bill here; not necessarily as the star of a Western, but a serial TV show. “The Good Doctor” star Beau Garrett is also in talks to join the ensemble, but casting is still ongoing. Based on a synopsis of “The Madison,” it’s likely Pfeiffer will play wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn, who leaves NYC with her family to head to Montana after her husband and brother-in-law’s tragic deaths in a plane crash. Production on the spinoff begins later this August in Montana, New York, and Texas, with a premiere date expected sometime in 2025.
But is “The Madison” a new version of “2024,” the “Yellowstone” sequel McConaughey was set to star in with Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes returning as Beth Dutton, Rip Wheeler, and Kayce Dutton respectively? It’s not clear if Russell replaces McConaughey in an updated version of that show, or if “The Madison” is a second, contemporary spinoff that accompanies “2024.” Puck News speculates that may be the case, but that would mean Paramount Network would have two “Yellowstone” sequels on the way, airing simultaneously. In the ever-growing, endlessly busy world that is Taylor Sheridan’s TV universe, that wouldn’t be surprising. But it’d be a huge thing for Sheridan & co. to keep under wraps. Still, “1944,” yet another “Yellowstone” spinoff is always on the way, so who knows?
