‘The Marvels’ Trailer: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, & Iman Vellani Offer New Transmissions From Space

The ongoing Marvel storytelling continues. And “The Marvels” is a super fascinating hybrid of Marvel’s efforts. Originally supposed to be a “Captain Marvel” sequel, a continuation of the Brie Larson-starring film with her as the super-powered hero Carol Danvers, the movie morphed into a kind of convergence sequel of three different stories: 1. “Captain Marvel,” 2. Monica Rambeau’s story from “WandaVision” and Kamala Khan’s narrative from the Disney+ show “Ms. Marvel.”

So, yes, “The Marvels” is essentially a super team-up film, with Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who might be known as Photon in the film eventually, and Iman Vellani as Kamal Khan, “Ms. Marvel.” We don’t have too much to go on aside from the end of “Captain Marvel,” one teased Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in space with the Kree aliens, and the post-credit of “Ms. Marvel,” showed some kind of time-space anomaly that made Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan switch places.

This much is clear, as evinced by the new trailer: the movie is an adventure that’s set in space, at least somewhat, Nick Fury is part of it, and the alien Kree race, which will also be featured in the upcoming “Secret Invasion” will factor into the story too.

Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon are also part of the cast in undisclosed roles, but rumors out there abound. Here’s the official synopsis:

Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”

Directed by Nia DaCosta (the “Candyman” reboot/sequel), “The Marvels” script has been credited to four writers Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. Its release date has shifted around many times too, but the film is finally coming out this fall on November 10, 2023 via Marvel Studios. Watch the new trailer below and get hype for “The Marvels.”
