To ramp up hype for the new film, MUBI, its distributor, has a first-look clip of Reichardt’s latest. And while the clip is barely two minutes long, it features lead Josh O’Connor starting to test out his skills as an amateur art thief, unbeknownst to Alaina Haim and the others around him.

Here’s an official synopsis for “The Mastermind,” courtesy of MUBI:

In a sedate corner of Massachusetts circa 1970, JB Mooney (Josh O’Connor), an unemployed carpenter turned amateur art thief, plans his first big heist. When things go haywire, his life unravels.

Along with O’Connor and Haim, “The Mastermind” also stars John Magaro, Gaby Hoffman, Bill Camp, and Hope Davis.

Reichardt both directs and writes “The Mastermind.” Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani, and Vincent Savino produce the film via filmscience. MUBI finances the film and handles its North American release and in other territories, with The Match Factory handling remaining worldwide sales.
