With five films in four years, plus another couple and a TV show on the way, it appears Guy Ritchie is in a career renaissance right now. So much the better for his fans. Next up for Ritchie? “The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” which starts shooting in Turkey later this month. Henry Cavill and Eiza González already star, but now Deadline has the scoop and who will join them for the upcoming war movie. And no surprise: like every great Ritchie film, this film has an ensemble full of charismatic actors tailormade for the director’s usual proclivities.
Leading the way are two actors who have worked with Ritchie before: Henry Golding, who plays Dry Eye in “The Gentlemen,” and Cary Elwes, who has a central role in “Ruse de Guerre.” Babs Olusanmokun, who stars in Ritchie’s “Wrath Of Man,” also joins the film. But plenty of other intriguing names are on board too, like “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Zaga, Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Oh, and Hugo Stiglitz himself, Til Schweiger, also joins the cast of “Ministry”; would it be a rowdy WWII actioner without Schweiger in the mix?
Ritchie’s next film adapts the true story about a secret British WWII combat organization run by Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond author Ian Fleming. A kind of proto-Black Ops unit, the group’s “ungentlemanly” tactics helped change the course of WWII. Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson pen the film’s script, based on the 2016 book by military historian Damien Lewis.
“Ministry” sees Ritchie team up with legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who’s fresh off an Oscar nom for “Top Gun: Maverick.” Bruckheimer produces the film with Chad Oman, Ritchie‘s usual producing partner Ivan Atkinson, and Black Bear International‘s John Friedberg.
Too many names join the cast of “Ministry” to recap their recent work and upcoming roles, but suffice it to say Ritchie culls quite the crew for his next feature. After this film wraps, Ritchie returns to Disney for “Aladdin 2“ and the upcoming live-action “Hercules” remake. And on top of “Ruse de Guerre” finally hitting theaters in March, Ritchie has “The Covenant” with Jake Gyllenhaal out in April, and his “The Gentlemen” TV series for Netflix on the way, too. Yup, it’s an excellent time to be a Guy Ritchie fan.
