Liam Neeson‘s late-career transition to action thriller leading man may reach its peak this year, with five films of that ilk in post-production right now, including a sequel to 2021’s “The Ice Road.” But before that, or “Cold Storage,” or Hotel Tehran,” or “4 Kids Walk Into A Bank,” or “The Mongoose” (still filming), comes “The Naked Gun,” which isn’t an action thriller, per se, but in an adjacent tonal register perfect for this stage of Neeson’s thespian life.

And does a reboot-sequel to the classic action comedy series need any introduction? Neeson stars in the upcoming film as Lt. Frank Drebin, Jr., son of Leslie Nielsen‘s bumbling buffoon cop, as he takes on a case that would make his father proud.

Along with Neeson, “The Naked Gun” also stars Pamela Anderson, Paul Water Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, and Cody Rhodes. Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston round out the main cast.
“The Lonely Island” member and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” director Akira Schaffer helms “The Naked Gun” reboot. He also co-writes the film’s screenplay with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. Seth MacFarlane co-produces with Erica Huggins.
