Count Halle Berry out of “Avengers: Doomsday” as the “X-Men” mutant leader Storm. Despite rumors that said Berry was getting close to signing a deal to appear in the next Avengers movie, the Academy Award-winning actress said on a red carpet last night she won’t appear in the film.
“Keep waiting,” Berry said with a laugh, “Because she’s not going to be there. She’s not going to be there.” It’s unclear if that’s supposed to mean something deeper, aka, that perhaps a financial offer wasn’t enough to entice her back into the film or she has no interest, but either way, you can cross off Storm appearing in the movie for now.
Last week, Marvel broke the internet/annoyed half the internet by announcing all the main cast of “Avengers: Doomsday,” one at a time, about twenty-seven actors over the course of an excruciatingly long five hours (dudes). The biggest surprise was the inclusion of many of the classic and legacy “X-Men” characters and actors from the 20th Century Fox movies. Marvel also noted that this wasn’t the end of the announcements and that more cast members would be revealed soon, which made most fans assume that all the Fox-era “X-Men” would be revealed soon, but that’s clearly not the case.
However, a few key classic Fox-era “X-Men” will appear in the film, and that was definitely the biggest reveal for fans. They include Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast (teased in the post-credit of “The Marvels”) and “Deadpool and Wolverine” co-star Channing Tatum as Gambit.
“I would absolutely return if Marvel called me,” Berry said in a 2021 interview with Vanity Fair. “I love Storm. She’s one of my favorite characters I’ve ever played, and I think there’s so much more to explore with her.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” is slated for a May 1, 2026 release date, with production expected to begin later this year. Fans will likely hold out hope that she and other classic/legacy “X-Men” could still turn up in “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027. Watch the clip below.
