‘The Penguin’ Trailer: 8 Episode ‘Batman’ Spin-Off Stars Colin Farrell This September

Never underestimate him. That’s the tagline to “The Penguin,” the next chapter in “The Batman” saga from writer/director-producer Matt Reeves. Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell reprises his role as The Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot, in the new Max Original Series coming this September to Max.

Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc (“Impulse,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Chuck”), the series centers on the character played by Farrell in the original Reeves film alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/The Batman. Obviously not a lot is known about the series, but it’s said to be about the battle for Gotham’s crime underworld in the vacuum made by the death of Carmen Falcone (John Turturro) in the franchise opener.

Here’s something of an official synopsis that doesn’t tell us that much.

Max has released an official second teaser and tease art for THE PENGUIN from Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, debuting this September. Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka “The Penguin”), the eight-episode DC Studios limited series continues filmmaker Matt Reeves’ The Batman epic crime saga that began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster “The Batman.” Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series centers on the character played by Farrell in the film.

The series is executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner, Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, and Bill Carraro. Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, THE PENGUIN is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal. Daniel Pipski also serves as executive producer.

No official release date for “The Penguin” has been given, but MAX by HBO says the series is due in September. Watch the new official teaser trailer below.
