‘The Real Me’: The Who Biopic To Begin Production This Summer From Director Paul Whittington

Rock biopics are a dime a dozen nowadays. Thanks to the ridiculous success of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” if you’re any sort of rock band worth your salt, you’re likely getting approached by Hollywood for the biopic treatment. And it appears that includes the legendary rock band, The Who.

According to Variety, the long-in-development biopic about The Who is finally getting off the ground, tentatively titled “The Real Me.” Much like “Bohemian Rhapsody” focused on the life and career of Freddie Mercury, while keeping the Queen story in the background, it appears “The Read Me” will focus on drummer Keith Moon. The film is said to be directed by British filmmaker Paul Whittington, who previously worked on “The Crown,” among other projects. Oscar-nominated screenwriter, Jeff Pope, is penning the script.

While the film is said to focus on Keith Moon, other Who members, Robert Daltry and Pete Townshend are on board as executive producers. For those unfamiliar with The Who and Moon, in particular, the drummer is one of the most iconic musicians in rock music. Not only is he known for being a great drummer, but Moon also had a reputation for his hard-partying lifestyle, which resulted in a fatal drug overdose when he was only 32 years old.

It’s unclear when we might see “The Real Me” debut. The film is said to begin production sometime this summer with casting beginning soon enough. If that’s the case, we will likely see The Who biopic arrive sometime in 2023.
