Steven Soderbergh must not sleep like regular folks, because he’s involved with yet another upcoming film called “The Return of Stanley Atwell,” and some first-look images from the period thriller have made their way online.
Soderbergh was behind the film’s story and will executive-produce the pic, hailing from writer/director Brian Welsh (“Beats,” “Black Mirror”), with a cast that includes Ella Purnell (“Fallout”), Nicholas Galitzine (“Masters of the Universe”), and Damian Lewis (“Billions,” “Band of Brothers”).

The latter actor is a new addition to the project, now in production in the United Kingdom and Malta, alongside Jess Alexander (“Amadeus”), Adrian Rawlins (“Slow Horses”), and Will Keen (“The Crown”).
An official synopsis for “The Return of Stanley Atwell” was also part of the reveal:
“The story follows Stanley Atwell (Galitzine), the presumed dead son and heir to Lord Atwell’s title and fortune, after he unexpectedly returns to the family estate having escaped a decade of mysterious captivity. Atwell’s shocking reappearance causes chaos as he finds his sister Beatrice fighting to claim his inheritance, whilst close friend Pamela (Purnell) manipulates his puzzling return, and a dark family secret, in a bid to seize control of the Atwell fortune. Sex, passion, backstabbing, and betrayal wreak havoc across the estate as the lies and deception the Atwell name has been built upon start to unravel. How far is each family member willing to go to protect their own wealth and status… and what is really behind the return of Stanley Atwell?”
Protagonist Pictures is handling the international sales of the film (we presume at the Cannes Film Market that occurs alongside the French film festival) with WME Independent co-repping the U.S. rights. The producers backing the latest Soderbergh/Welsh (the pair previously worked together on “Beats”) project include Hera Pictures‘ Liza Marshall, the banner behind the Oscar-winning drama “Hamnet,” and is also co-produced by John Gore (John Gore Studios). Others involved include executive producers Hilary Strong and Francis Hopkinson at John Gore Studios, alongside Dave Bishop and George Hamilton of Protagonist.
That said, you can view those new images from “The Return of Stanley Atwell” below, which were shared by Variety.
