‘The Sandman’: Freddie Fox, Jack Gleeson, Steve Coogan & More Join The Cast As Season 2 Begins Production

After decades in various stages of development, Netflix was the studio that was finally able to bring “The Sandman” to life on screen. And believe it or not, it was apparently a pretty big hit. Now, the series has begun production on its second season, and we now know what group of folks are being added to the growing ensemble.

According to Netflix, new cast members coming to “The Sandman” Season 2 include Adrian Lester, Esmé Creed-Miles, Barry Sloane, Ruairi O’Connor, Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Jack Gleeson, Indya Moore, and Steve Coogan. That’s a lot of names, and for the sake of relative brevity, let’s take a look at a few of the standout names in the group.

Obviously, people are aware of Coogan. He’s been acting in high-profile projects for years. In “The Sandman,” he’s set to provide the voice of the canine companion Barnabas. Then you have Jack Gleeson, who is famous for being one of the most hated characters on “Game of Thrones.” In the Netflix series, he’s set to play Puck, a malevolent hobgoblin. Then you have Freddie Fox, who has shown up in series such as “Slow Horses” and “House of the Dragon.” In “The Sandman,” he’ll play Loki. Yes, that does mean Season 2 will also include Thor and Odin.

If you’ve never seen “The Sandman,” it’s a tough show to quantify. The basic gist of it is that we follow Dream, a member of a family of gods called The Endless. And Dream has to do battle with the bitter Lucifer. It’s a wild, ethereal show, and it’s well worth checking out. The returning cast from Season 1 includes Tom Sturridge, as well as Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Vanesu Samunyai, and Razane Jammal.

Season 2 still doesn’t have a release date, but with production happening now, all signs point to 2025.
