There was an eight-year gap between the release of David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars” and “Crimes of the Future.” Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait that long for his newest feature, “The Shrouds.”
With “The Shrouds” debuting at Cannes, we now have our first teaser for the sci-fi drama from director David Cronenberg. The film tells the story of a businessman who invents a way for people to monitor their deceased loved ones after they’ve been buried. However, the businessman aims for revenge when he finds that someone has desecrated the grave of his wife.
The film stars Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, and Sandrine Holt. “The Shrouds” is written and directed by Cronenberg.
In our review of “The Shrouds” out of Cannes, we said, “ Even if, at times, its jumbled storylines prove frustrating, ‘The Shrouds’ is still a poignant insight into the grieving process of one of our most interesting living filmmakers and one always so beautifully attuned to notions of presence and absence.”
“The Shrouds” is playing at Cannes, but a U.S. release has yet to be revealed. You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
