'The Strangers: Chapter 2' Teaser: Madelaine Petsch Returns In Renny Harlin's Slasher Sequel

To say it was a bold move to go ahead and film a trilogy of “The Strangers” films back-to-back-to-back is an understatement. But that’s exactly what Lionsgate has done, as the studio tries to get its own slasher franchise on its feet. The first film, released earlier this year, did pretty well at the box office, but it was not well-received by critics. Perhaps the sequel can change that?

As seen in the new teaser for “The Strangers: Chapter 2,” the film picks up where the first film left off, with our final girl (played by Madelaine Petsch) having woken up in a hospital. But after leaving the hospital, she finds herself picked up by a group of strangers that may or may not be the same killers who tried to take her out in the first film.

As mentioned, the film stars Madelaine Petsch as Maya, the surviving character from the first film. Before doing “The Strangers,” Petsch was probably best known for her years on the teen soap drama, “Riverdale.” In addition to that role, she has shown up in recent films such as “Jane,” “About Fate,” and “Hotel for the Holidays.”

This new ‘Strangers’ film is still directed by veteran filmmaker Renny Harlin. The film is written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland. Supposedly, the second film in the franchise is supposed to go in a bit of a different direction. The first film decided to be another home invasion thriller with the three ‘Strangers’ slashers going after Petsch and her partner. It didn’t break any new ground, to put it nicely.

There’s still no exact release date for “The Strangers: Chapter 2.” You can watch the teaser below:
