'The Wrong Missy' Trailer: David Spade's Netflix Comedy Feels Ripped From 1995

Remember when David Spade was the next big thing in comedy? After a successful run on ‘SNL’ in the early-‘90s, the comedian teamed with Chris Farley for a couple of classic films, “Black Sheep” and “Tommy Boy.” Spade was poised to be a star for years to come. Of course, that didn’t totally pan out, though “Joe Dirt” does hold a place in the hearts of many. However, it appears that Netflix was able to unearth a lost gem, “The Wrong Missy,” from that mid-to-late-‘90s run to show that David Spade had another comedy that was meant for the big screen. Wait, this is a new movie? Like a 2020 movie? Seriously? Uh, oh.

As seen in the trailer for “The Wrong Missy,” Spade plays a guy who works a pretty crappy corporate job but somehow charms a former beauty queen while stuck at an airport. Then when his job invites him on a retreat in Hawaii, he goes to invite his new “dream woman.” Unfortunately, he texts the wrong Missy (get it?) and invites a crazy lady to join him instead. Hijinks ensue, as the wrong Missy (hilarious, right?) is so crazy and wild that she gets involved in all sorts of ridiculous situations.

Joining Spade in his film are actors such as Lauren Lapkus, Nick Swardson, Geoff Pierson, Jackie Sandler, Molly Sims, Sarah Chalke, Chris Witaske, and Rob Schneider. The film is written by Chris Pappas and Kevin Barnett, and it’s directed by Tyler Spindel.

The film, which probably is about 25 years too late, is set to arrive on Netflix on May 13.

Here’s the synopsis:

When Tim Morris meets his dream girl and their relationship quickly escalates through texts, he throws caution to the wind and invites her to his company’s corporate retreat on an island resort… However, when a past blind date from hell shows up at the airport for the weekend getaway instead, he learns too late that he’s been texting “The Wrong Missy”.
