After the fantastic reception for his acclaimed and Emmy-winning HBO series “Barry,” Bill Hader is making his feature directorial debut with his new horror movie “They Know,” which has started filming in Los Angeles, and Hader has landed a high-profile co-star.
Actress Linda Cardellini is set to star alongside Hader in “They Know,” according to a casting update from Deadline. The outlet also mentions a logline for the pic, as it “centers on a divorced dad (Hader) who grows suspicious that his ex-wife (Cardellini) is secretly dating a mysterious man who is having a strange influence on their children.”

Media Rights Capital is financing the movie, based on an original story idea coming from Hader and his “Barry creative partner, Duffy Boudreau. Hader and Bob Graf (via his production banner Hanarply) are producing it, with Alyssa Donovan co-producing.
Hader’s series “Barry” mixed dark thematic elements (criminal syndicates and killing for money) with cheeky comedic and satirical elements (some minor horror nods as well), so there is an expectation that, despite being set within the horror genre, “They Know” might have an edge that his previous show had.
Cardellini is coming off the finale of “DTF St. Louis,” wrapping up that limited series at HBO Max, and was tapped by A24 to play a series iteration of Pamela Vorheese in their “Friday the 13th” prequel series “Crystal Lake” (mother of the iconic slasher Jason Vorheese, and the franchise’s original killer in the first installment).
As said at the top, filming is underway, which means we’ll likely learn more about other actors among the cast of “They Know” in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned as those updates roll in.
