'Another Round' Director Thomas Vinterberg To Direct A New Series About Denmark Getting Wrecked By A Flood

While “Another Round” doesn’t have the same Oscar chances that “Parasite” did last year, Thomas Vinterberg’s dramedy about excessive drinking is easily one of the best films of the past year and should be must-see programming for anyone who hasn’t already enjoyed the Mads Mikkelsen-starring feature. And after seeing “Another Round,” people will most definitely be interested in seeing what Vinterberg has up his sleeve next, which appears to be a new TV series, “Families Like Ours.”

According to Variety, Thomas Vinterberg is set to co-write and direct “Families Like Ours,” a new drama series that will be distributed by Danish broadcaster TV2. The series takes place in Denmark, naturally, where a natural disaster has forced the country to evacuate its citizens. Some are able to travel to wealthy countries and start over, while others are forced to go to more challenging situations abroad. Families are torn apart, friends are separated, and the whole country is left in ruins. The series will explore the situations facing the refugees as they venture into other locations.

“‘Families Like Ours’ will be a series exploring the things that you cannot control in life, [but which inspires] you to embrace these things as part of your journey,” said producer Sisse Graum Jørgensen.

The producer continued, “Thomas had the idea for ‘Families Like Ours’ long before the pandemic but it turns out that it really connects with our times or where we are now in the world today. We are all so concerned about what is happening around us, what will happen next, when will this end and, at the same time, we just need to continue enjoying our lives.”

Vinterberg is receiving near-universal acclaim for “Another Round.” The film is nominated for two Oscars, including Best International Picture and Best Director. That film is available now to watch on Hulu, where available.
