We are only weeks away from this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and though we’ve seen almost every lineup that will be featured at the event, the folks at the festival still had a couple tricks up their sleeve. And one of those is the World Premiere of the upcoming Noah Hawley film, “Lucy in the Sky,” starring Natalie Portman.
Today, TIFF announced that “Lucy in the Sky” would be joining a group of some high-profile special presentations at the annual event. The film, which also features Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, and Ellen Burstyn, is expected to get some awards season attention and is a huge world premiere for the festival.
Other new announcements include the Gala screenings, which will be Tom Harper’s upcoming Amazon feature “The Aeronauts” and Giuseppe Capotondi’s “The Burnt Orange Heresy.” There are also some highlights in the Special Presentations group including the World Premieres of “Synchronic,” from filmmakers Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, and Max Winkler’s “Jungleland.”
“We’re thrilled to announce this second wave of Galas and Special Presentations, which I believe are some of the most compelling in the lineup,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director and Co-Head of TIFF. “Audiences will be delighted by the artistry present in this year’s splashiest sections.”
“Our TIFF programmers have given us a lot to look forward to this year,” said Joana Vicente, Executive Director and Co-Head of TIFF. “These final films add even more emotional resonance and gravitas to this year’s already stellar lineup.”
The 2019 Toronto International Film Festival begins on September 5.
