Grandage adapts Bethan Roberts’ award-winning 2012 novel for Prime Video that charts a love triangle for decades. Harry Styles stars as the triangle’s primary nexus, a closeted policeman who marries a local teacher even though he’s in love with a male museum curator.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis, courtesy of Prime Video:

A beautifully crafted story of forbidden love and changing social conventions, “My Policeman” follows three young people – policeman Tom), teacher Marion, and museum curator Patrick– as they embark on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain. Flashing forward to the 1990s, Tom, Marion, and Patrick are still reeling with longing and regret, but now they have one last chance to repair the damage of the past. Based on the book by Bethan Roberts, director Michael Grandage carves a visually transporting, heart-stopping portrait of three people caught up in the shifting tides of history, liberty, and forgiveness.

“My Policeman” also stars Emma Corrin, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett. Grandage directs Ron Nyswaner’s screenplay adaptation of Roberts’ novel. Greg Berlanti produces through Berlanti Productions with his partner Robbie Rogers, along with Sarah Schechter, Cora Palfrey, and Philip Herd.

Harry Styles also has a starring role in another film this fall, Olivia Wilde’s sophomore feature, “Don’t Worry Darling.” In that film, Styles plays the husband of a married couple living in a seemingly perfect company town in America in the 1950s, but nothing is what it seems. “Don’t Worry Darling” will almost certainly have its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival next month.

Is Fall 2022 when Harry Styles breaks out as a bonafide leading mean? How “My Policeman” performs at TIFF will decide that. No word on a world premiere date for the film at TIFF, but that news should break soon. The film gets a limited theatrical release before it premieres on Prime Video on October 21.
