A tale of burning desire and betrayal, powered by two of the hottest rising actors around in Oscar Isaac and Elizabeth Olsen…yep, you can see what we’re likely to carve out a space for “Therese” (formerly “Therese Raquin“) at TIFF. And now the first clip for the film has been unveiled to give a little serving of what folks will get in Toronto next month.
Co-starring Jessica Lange, Tom Felton and Matt Lucas, Olsen stars as Therese, a young woman trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin Camille (Felton), who enters a passionate affair with her husband’s best friend Laurent (Isaac). As you might guess, it doesn’t end well. And in this scene, we witness the first introduction between the pair, presumably before their passions go into overdrive. Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in the lower depths of 1860s Paris, Therese is a tale of obsessive love, adultery and revenge based on Emile Zola’s scandalous novel. Trapped in a loveless marriage to her sickly cousin, Therese embarks on an illicit affair with her husband’s childhood friend that leads to tragic consequences.
Charlie Stratton directs the film that will be seeking a U.S. distributor to snap it up.
