According to Deadline, Tiffany Haddish has signed on to star opposite Cage in the meta action-comedy film, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.” The film gained headlines when it was announced after it was revealed that Cage would be playing a fictionalized version of himself who is on the brink of financial ruin and must take a $1 million job to show up at a birthday party for a superfan. However, once there, the shit hits the fan and Cage must imbue all the qualities of the badasses he’s played in films over the years to escape alive. Haddish is set to play a rogue government agent that enlists the help of Cage as an undercover operative that will help her take down one of the largest criminal organizations in all of Europe.

Yes, the film sounds absolutely bonkers, and we can already imagine the over-the-top performance from Cage being given right back to him by the larger-than-life comedic persona of Haddish. The real question is whether or not a film can hold both of them on the screen at the same time.

Haddish rose to fame thanks to her scene-stealing performance in the comedy hit, “Girls Trip.” Since then, she’s appeared in a number of big comedies, including “Night School,” “Uncle Drew,” “Like a Boss,” and “Bad Trip.” Recently, she’s also flexed her dramatic muscles in features such as “The Kitchen” and the forthcoming Paul Schrader film, “The Card Counter.”

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is directed by Tom Gormican, who co-wrote the script with Kevin Etten. Joining Haddish and Cage in the cast are Pedro Pascal and Sharon Horgan. It’s unclear when the film might be released, as the pandemic has shifted just about everything. But you better believe this will be near the top of our (or at least my personal) most-anticipated list.
