That a sequel to the smash hit “Deadpool” is coming is hardly a surprise —it has already been greenlit. Yet Tim Miller, director of the first film, had not been confirmed to return. Well, the good news is that he’s back.
Today at CinemaCon, 20th Century Fox confirmed that Miller is back in the fold, alongside star Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Details are still coming together on what the followup will involve story wise, but the filmmakers don’t necessarily want to play in a bigger financial sandbox. That said, the scope may expand a little, with Cable and Domino expected to drop by.
Production on the sequel will likely begin this fall, with more pun filled marketing sure to follow.
By the way, Tim Miller and “Deadpool” producer Simon Kinberg are actually open to the idea of a crossover with Marvel one day ala the deal that Sony and the MCU struck last year (the fruits of which we’ll all see in “Captain America: Civil War”) “I would love to see it,” Kinberg told Crave recently about a Fox and Marvel crossover. “Both of us are close with [Marvel’s] Kevin [Feige] and have a profound amount of respect for what he does. ”
“And it would be fun to all team up one day, somehow, together, if that could work, [I] would love to, someday, in part, heal the rift between the world of ‘X-Men’ and the world of ‘Avengers,'” Miller added. “I think we all would,” Kinberg said. “And I think there’s so much crossover in the comic it would be neat to see those characters one day share a movie.” Fingers crossed for one day?
