What’s an easy way to spice up the standard slasher formula? That’s easy: time travel.  Christopher Landon‘s two “Happy Death Day” movies gave the slasher the “Groundhog Day” treatment to much fanfare back in the mid-late 2010s.  Bast year’s “Totally Killer” went all-in on the premise, complete with a time machine, parents as teens, and a general “Back To The Future” vernacular.

So leave it to Netflix to pick up where “Totally Killer” left off: the streamer has “Time Cut” premiering just in time for Halloween. And the set-up for “Time Cut” is pretty much exactly the same as “Totally Killer,” with a teen girl going back in time to solve a family member’s murder. Is it a surprise to anyone that Landon is involved on the film as a producer?
Here’s an official synopsis for “Time Cut,” courtesy of Netflix:
A teenage girl travels back to the early 2000s to stop a vicious killer from murdering her sister.
Madison Bailey stars in “Time Cut” with Antonia Gentry, Michael Shanks, and Griffin Gluck. Rachael Crawford, Jordan Pettle, Megan Best, and Samuel Braun also star. Sydney Sabiston and Kataem O’Connor round out the main cast.
Hannah Macpherson directs “Time Cut,” and co-writes the film’s script with Michael Kennedy. Landon produces the film with Matt Kaplan. Executive producers on the slasher include Christopher Foss, Matthew Janzen, Max Siemers, and Aubrey Bendix. “Time Cut” is an ACE Entertainment production.
So is “Time Cut” a new amusing twist on the slasher genre or a derivative flick getting dumped on Netflix right before everyone’s favorite scary holiday? Find out when the film premieres on the streamer on October 30. Watch a trailer for “Time Cut” below.
