Got a Tip?

Tom Holland Says ‘Into The Spider-Verse’ Is the “Best ‘Spider-Man’ Movie That’s Ever Been Made”

Since the debut of Sam Raimi’s first ‘Spider-Man’ film back in 2002, there have been quite a few films featuring the wallcrawler over the past 20 years. Three of those feature none other than Tom Holland as Peter Parker. But when asked which is the very best ‘Spider-Man’ film to ever get made, Holland didn’t mention any of the films he worked on. Instead, he went with what is arguably the objectively correct answer.

Speaking to the Associated Press while at the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series, “The Crowded Room,” actor Tom Holland said that 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is the “best” of the ‘Spider-Man’ films. And in giving his explanation, he talked about how longtime ‘Spidey’ producer Amy Pascal is one of his dearest friends.

“I think the first ‘Spider-Verse’ movie is the best ‘Spider-Man’ movie that’s ever been made,” Holland said. “I’m so proud of everyone involved. Amy Pascal is like my mom. I was supposed to go with her [to the ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ premiere] as her date, I couldn’t go because I’m here working. But I’m incredibly proud of them, I’m excited for the second one. I’m sure it will live up to every expectation, and I can’t wait to see it.”

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” enjoyed surprising success back when it was released. Not only was it an immediate box office success, but the animated film would go on to become a critical darling and win a ton of awards, including the Best Animated Film Oscar. The reason why this is coming up now is obviously that Sony just released the sequel, ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ which is getting perhaps even better reviews, with many saying it actually works better than the first film.

As Holland said, in the interview, he has yet to watch ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ so it’s unclear how that film might eventually rank in his mind. However, it’s clear the sequel is on a path to becoming one of the most successful animated films of the past several years at the box office and is likely going to, once again, be in the awards season conversation.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is in theaters now. A fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film featuring Tom Holland is in development now, but there’s no word on when we might see it in theaters.
