'Top Gun 3': Miles Teller Says He's Had "Some Conversations" With Tom Cruise About A New Sequel

When it was announced, fans saw “Top Gun: Maverick” and wondered, “Why?” Did we really need a sequel more than 30 years after the first film? Well, since the release of ‘Maverick,’ the answer is a resounding “Yes!” Now, there is a whole new generation of fans wondering if we’re going to get a “Top Gun 3?” And ‘Maverick’ star, Miles Teller, is here to tease that he’s already talked to Tom Cruise about jumping back into the pilot’s seat.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Miles Teller teased the possibility of a “Top Gun: Maverick” sequel, though he still isn’t sure it’s going to happen. As you might imagine, for a new ‘Top Gun’ sequel to get the go-ahead, Tom Cruise has to be the one to sign off.

“That would be great, but that’s all up to [Cruise],” said Teller. “It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see.”

He added, “For him to share ‘Top Gun’ with me and a lot of these other young actors it’s just been such a wild ride, and it’s still going.”

You have to imagine Paramount is very much interested in continuing the ‘Top Gun’ franchise after ‘Maverick.’ Since its release in May, “Top Gun: Maverick” has earned more than $1.18 billion worldwide and is soon to cross $600 million just in North America. It’s, by far, the highest-grossing film for Tom Cruise and has not only been a huge moneymaker but also received critical acclaim. This is the type of blockbuster studios dream about. But then again, without Tom Cruise, a sequel is dead in the water.

Cruise is busy at the moment not only prepping the release of “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1,” but he’s also working on that film’s sequel, which is in the middle of shooting now. It’s likely that a “Top Gun 3” would be years off, and Cruise isn’t getting any younger. Though it must be said, Cruise hasn’t really shown any signs of slowing down. So, who knows what the future holds?

“Top Gun: Maverick” is in theaters now.
