Besides providing audiences with another carefully crafted thriller from David Fincher, "Gone Girl" has more treats up its sleeve thanks to another soundtrack from the director’s preferred collaborators of late, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The filmmaker gave very specific instructions to the pair for how to approach crafting the music for the film.
"He said, ‘think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors,’" Reznor told The Wall Street Journal earlier this month. "The way that it artificially tries to make you feel like everything’s OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel."
Of course, the music winds up evoking the most awkward hug possible, as evidenced by these four tracks. You can check out it below, along with the full tracklist for the movie. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in the song tiles. "Gone Girl" drops on October 3rd, with the soundtrack arriving digitally on September 30th (a vinyl edition is also on the way).
Update 09/25: You can now stream the entire soundtrack at NPR.
