The new film from director André Øvredal (“Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark“) is loosely based on the “The Captain’s Log” chapter from Bram Stoker‘s original “Dracula” novel chronicling the voyage Dracula took from mainland Europe to London. Its title refers to the ship that transports Dracula to England. A first-look trailer has been released and gives the impression the pic will be way more horror-focused and scary than Universal’s other Dracula release, as the vampire picks off various crew members to feed its thirst for blood during the high seas journey.

Here is an official synopsis for the film provided by the studio:

‘The Last Voyage of The Demeter’ tells the terrifying story of the merchant ship Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo—fifty unmarked wooden crates—from Carpathia to London. Strange events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew.

It has a cast that consists of Corey Hawkins (“The Walking Dead,” “Straight Outta Compton“) playing Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, actress Aisling Franciosi (“The Nightingale“) as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham (“Game of Thrones“) as the ship’s captain and David Dastmalchian (“Dune“) is set as Demeter’s first mate.

Screenwriters Bragi F. Schut, Stefan Ruzowitzky, and Zak Olkewicz were also behind the script.
