The Wachowskis are seemingly no longer interested in working as a filmmaking duo. We’ve known this for a while, as Lana Wachowski went off and made the most recent ‘Matrix’ film on her own, while Lilly Wachowski worked on the acclaimed TV series “Work in Progress.” So, it’s still a little strange to see them working apart, but apparently, it’s time for Lilly to make her own feature film titled “Trash Mountain.”

According to Collider, Lilly Wachowski is set to direct a comedy film, “Trash Mountain.” The film comes from the mind of comedian Caleb Hearon, who co-wrote the script alongside Ruby Caster and is set to star in the movie. “Trash Mountain” follows a gay Chicago man who has to return to his hometown in Missouri after the death of his father to pick through his hoarder parent’s belongings. Interestingly, the film is also set to be produced by none other than “Jurassic World” filmmaker Colin Trevorrow.
“When my pal Caleb Hearon sent me ‘Trash Mountain,’ I leapt at the chance to direct it,” said Wachowski. “So beautiful and sad and funny! Queer representation and stories are vital at this time as we are being shoved further into the margins. Our amazing writers, Caleb and Ruby, are a shining light in all this dang darkness.”
Trevorrow added, “Caleb Hearon and Ruby Caster are true originals, and Lilly Wachowski is a living legend. I’m insanely lucky to call them collaborators and friends.”
Even though this is pretty far from her previous work with her sister on the ‘Matrix’ franchise, the idea of Lilly Wachowski taking on this film isn’t all that shocking. The filmmaker has really devoted herself to shining light on LGBTQ stories as of late, with the aforementioned “Work in Progress” and “Sense8.” So, even though there doesn’t appear to be any robots and kung fu, “Trash Mountain” is pretty on-brand with the projects Wachowski is interested in making now.
It’s still too early to know when we might see “Trash Mountain” show up on a screen somewhere, but we’re definitely eager to check it out.
