Tribeca Exclusive: Clip From Crime Drama 'Glass Chin' Starring Corey Stoll & Billy Crudup

A couple of years ago writer-director Noah Buschel unleashed his tiny, deeply affectingSparrows Dance,”a movie set in a single apartment, with only two characters. For his highly anticipated follow-up (at least by us), he has expanded his palette considerably, this time tackling a modestly scaled crime drama about a down-on-his-luck former boxer (Corey Stoll from “House of Cards“) who becomes embroiled in the criminal operation of a weirdo gangster/restaurateur (Billy Crudup), all while struggling to maintain his longtime romantic relationship (Marin Ireland, who starred in “Sparrows Dance”).  It’s one of the best movies you’ll see at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and what’s more—we’ve got an exclusive clip.

In the clip, Bud “The Saint” Gordon (Stoll) is trying to explain to his girlfriend (Ireland) about what went down the other night while doing a job for JJ (Crudup). We don’t want to give away too much… But he’s definitely implicated in a horrible crime and seemingly can’t find his way out of it. What’s so great about the sequence is the way that Stoll modulates his tough guy persona, letting out his inner hopelessness. He was, after all, a boxer who went down because of his “glass chin” (he was jabbed in the chin and instantly crumpled).

Co-starring a scene-stealing Yul Vazquez, Kelly Lynch and John Douglas Thompson, “Glass Chin” runs a smooth 87 minutes, and is having its world premiere on Saturday night at the Festival at the Bow Tie Cinemas Chelsea 7, with three more screenings scattered throughout the week. If you’re attending the festival, be sure to check this one out.
