2020’s “Trolls World Tour” didn’t exactly light the box office on fire like its predecessor from 2016, “Trolls.” But maybe the COVID-19 pandemic and theater closures had something to do with it. Things get a little meta in the upcoming animated sequel, with Anna Kendrick‘s Poppy and Justin Timberlake‘s Branch now an official couple. But nothing can prepare Poppy about Branch’s secret past: he was part of the boyband BroZone with his brothers. And when one of those brothers gets kidnapped by a pair of pop-star villains who want to utilize his talents from themselves, Branch and Poppy need to go on an adventure that teems Branch up with his forgotten family and rescue his brother from a fate worse than pop-culture obscurity.
“Trolls Band Together” also stars Troye Sivan, Eric André, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi as Branch’s brothers. Amy Schumer and Andrew Rannells star as the movie’s villains, Velvet and Veneer. Other new cast members include Camila Cabello, Zosia Mamet, and RuPaul Charles.
Returning cast members for the film include Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt, Anderson .Paak, Ron Funches, Kunal Nayyar, and Kenan Thompson.
Walt Dohrn returns to direct “Trolls Band Together,” with Tim Heitz, who served as head of story on “Trolls World Tour,” co-directing. Gina Shay leads the film’s production team through DreamWorks Animation.
