'Twisted Metal' Teaser: Anthony Mackie Stars In Peacock's Adaptation Of The Hit PlayStation Game Series This July

Peacock has already had a strong 2023 when it comes to original content, with “Poker Face” and “Mrs. Davis” winning over critics. So what’s the streamer’s next big hit? Maybe it’s “Twisted Metal“? The live-action adaptation of the PlayStation game series arrives this summer, ready to transport viewers back to the mid-90s/early 2000s.

For those who didn’t play PlayStation two decades ago, “Twisted Metal” is a vehicular combat game that features a post-apocalyptic setting, lunatic drivers, and a killer clown driving an ice cream truck.  

Here’s an official synopsis for the series, courtesy of Peacock:

TWISTED METAL, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.  

Anthony Mackie leads the cast of “Twisted Metal,” including Stephanie BeatrizThomas Haden ChurchWill Arnett, and Joe Seanoa (otherwise known as pro wrestler Samoa Joe). Guest stars include Neve CampbellRichard CabralMike MitchellTahj Vaughans, and Lou Beatty Jr.

As stated above “Cobra Kai” writer Michael Jonathan Smith is showrunner on “Twisted Metal”; he also writes the series and serves as co-executive producer.  Kitao Sakura directs multiple episodes of the show’s ten-episode first run. Other executive producers for the series include Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Arnett, Marc FormanJason SpirePeter PrincipatoAsad QizilbashCarter Swan, and Hermen Hulst. Mackie is also part of the executive producing team.
