The Hargreeves siblings are back at it, but the real question is where are they? The new trailer for Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” season two might give us a hint. When audiences last saw the family of superheroes, they’d accidentally triggered the apocalypse. As he’s already mastered it the art of time travel, Five (Aidan Gallagher) leads his adopted siblings to safety by transporting them to another time.
For over a year now, “The Umbrella Academy” fans have been left on a major cliffhanger, wondering where the Hargreeves went or why they reverting back to their teenage selves. Netflix has been slowly doling out pieces of the puzzle this year — character posters, stills from season 2, and the following very spoilery season two synopsis:
Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right – the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.
Along with Gallagher, Ellen Page, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Ethan Hwang are all reprising their respective roles in “The Umbrella Academy” season 2. The entirety of “The Umbrella Academy” season 2 drops on Netflix on July 31. Take a look at the trailer below to see what new questions have been answered.
