Got a Tip?

‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Trailer: Final Season Tackles The #MeToo Situation

The adorable, child-in-an-adult-body Ellie Kemper and her adorable-child-in-an-adult-body character, Kimmy Schmidt, who is inexplicably not traumatized after being kidnapped and trapped in an underground bunker for years and simply expresses a child-like wonder about the world she re-enters, is returning to TV soon! And by TV, I mean Netflix, of course, because I’m not entirely sure that TV exists anymore). The fourth, and unfortunately final, season will debut on May 30th, so start compiling a list of things you plan on beginning on May 31st when you finish “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” day of.

Because Tina Fey can do whatever she wants for however long she wants, the final season will be broken up into two halves. Just like“Game of Thrones”! Because certainly Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt carries the same emotional weight, has a similarly intricate mythology, and instigates an online frenzy of analyses on the minutiae of every second of airtime, just like GoT. So it makes sense that it, too, can’t be squished into one longer season.

No, but seriously, that is good news. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of the funniest shows on TV today, and it’s all you’ll get from comedy genius Tina Fey for now, unless you think you can stomach “Mean Girls on Broadway. So, write it in your calendar: May 30th brings us six bright and sparkly, brand new episodes. According to the press release:

The season finds the optimistic Kimmy starting a new career as HR manager of the startup Giztoob, but it’s more than she bargained for when her boss tells her she has to fire someone and she unintentionally gets tangled in a #MeToo situation. Also, Jacqueline builds her talent agency empire, but for the moment has only one client (Titus). And between creating and starring in a new (fake) TV show and directing his first middle school play, Titus’s own career begins to take off. All the while, Lillian continues to do whatever it takes to “disrupt” and “burst the paradigm.”

Along with Kemper are stars Titus Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane. And past guest stars Jon Hamm, Amy Sedaris, Mike Carlsen, Zosia Mamet, and Derek Klena are all set to return, with new guest stars, including Busy Phillips, Greg Kinnear, Bobby Moynihan, and Aidy Bryant making appearances as well.
