Ladies and gentlemen, can we please have your attention. We've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. We need all of you to stop what you're doing and listen.
Yep, while it looked for the longest time as though it might never happen, the sequel to "Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy," probably the most beloved comedy of the last decade, has finally been greenlit, with Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner all set to re-assemble the Channel 4 News Team under the leadership of original director Adam McKay. And while the film hasn't yet gone before cameras — indeed, the script's still being written — Paramount is getting the wheels moving on the publicity machine: an announcement trailer is going to be in theaters tonight in front of "The Dictator," but ahead of that, the studio has debuted the first teaser poster for the sequel, courtesy of Collider.
Revealing that the film is officially titled "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," it simply displays the dapper pants and shoes of the News Team, but it's pretty much made us happier than most full movies we've seen this year. As for that trailer, Adam McKay talked to EW about getting the gang back together, revealing that Brian Fantana is going to be a little more hirsute than when we last saw him: "All of the actors slipped right into character and they all looked amazing. Paul has a beard and we’re thinking of keeping it. Kind of an Eddie Rabbit-meets-'Serpico' look."
The director's not giving much away about the plot at this point, mainly because the script's still being written, but he was able to rule some things out: "Right now I can say for sure there is no 'Ghost Rider' cameo or a scene where Ron fights a wolverine on a nose-diving helicopter. We’re either going to shoot the movie in 3-D or 1/2 D.” Check back later today for the trailer itself, and otherwise, keep on looking forward to "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," which will hit theaters in 2013.
