From acclaimed Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier and television writer David E. Kelley comes the upcoming HBO miniseries “The Undoing,” a Nicole-Kidman-led story about well-known therapist Grace Sachs who, just weeks before her book is scheduled to be published, finds her life upended by a missing husband, a murder, and a number of startling developments that threaten to destroy the stability of the life she loved. The project was given a series order in March 2018, with Kelley serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Bier will direct and Kidman will help executive produce. Set for release in the summer, HBO has big hopes on the mini-series being and is positioning it as its big release and Emmy awards contender for next year.

“The Undoing” is based off American novelist and playwright Jean Hanff Korelitz‘s 2014 novel “You Should Have Known,” which went on to be published in eighteen languages. With “Big Little Lies” season three in limbo and Reese Witherspoon off doing “Little Fires Everywhere” at Hulu, HBO is definitely happy they kept Kidman in house and surely hopes the mini-series will be their most-talked-about summer hit that will hopefully connect at the Emmys and even Golden Globes.

Best known for her work on “The Night Manager,” “Bird Box,” “After the Wedding” and “In a Better World,” Bier suffered a career slump when “Serena” (starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper) flopped at the box office and threw the future of her once-successful career into question. But boy, she recovered quick, “The Night Manager” was a huge critical hit for AMC and “Bird Box” was a huge success for Netflix. Let’s hope the magic strikes again.
