Is a story about the race to create the ultimate snack that will somehow change the face of breakfast a story worth telling or even a movie? Well, according to Jerry Seinfeld, it is. And it’s enough for him to make his first feature-length directorial debut around it, too. Yep, “Unfrosted,” is a new movie about the creation of Pop-Tarts as written and directed by the comedian. It’s a movie about Kellogg’s and Post, cereal giants, facing off to create the first pastry sensation for breakfast. No, really. It sounds a little bit like “Oppenheimer,” only about breakfast foods.

What’s more, the Netflix movie that comes out this May has pulled out all the stops and has a huge cast and seemingly big budget. The huge cast of “Unfrosted” stars Seinfeld himself with Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, and Hugh Grant. The film also includes a supporting cast that features Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Bobby Moynihan, Adrian Martinez, Sarah Cooper, and Fred Armisen.

Battle Creek, Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A wildly imaginative tale of ambition, betrayal, and menacing milkmen – sweetened with artificial ingredients – UNFROSTED stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial film debut. It features a supporting cast of comedy greats, including Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Sarah Cooper, Bill Burr, and many more.
It’s certainly a weird story to make an entire movie about, but then again, since Seinfeld made an entire career about making the mundane and unremarkable peculiarities of life his bread and butter, maybe the whole thing makes a lot of sense in that regard.
